Hosted in the new, bigger, and improved branch of Lock Stock & Barrel (LSB); this brunch was designed with fun & games in mind. The brunch is currently served only the lower level of the massive 2-story bar. There is also a cool outdoor terrace, which overlooks the hotel pool.
The food is served as a four round unlimited sharing menu, as follows:
Round (1) Americanas:
Potato skins, onion rings, wings and flatbread. The wings was definitely the crowd favorite.
Round (2) Jacks & Taj:
Beer battered cod, battered sausage, and fired (Jack).
Vegetable Jalfrezi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Naan & Roti, Poppadoms, and Mango Chutney (Taj)
The cod was bland, sausage not good, and fries disappointing. Personally, I believe a bar should serve up good quality fries, and not simply throw a bag of frozen potatoes into a fryer.
The Jalfrezi and Masala was below average, and I highly doubt that any of the local Indian Expat community would be impressed.
Round (3)Chop Sticks & Habbibi:
Fried rice, Mongolian beef, sweet & sour chicken (Chop sticks)
Mixed grill of kebab and shish taouk.
My favorite course of the brunch, both the beef & chicken were well-balanced dishes.
Although the kebab was too salty for some, I enjoyed it and used it to absorb the gallons of liquor pouring down into my poor stomach.
Round (4) The PUD:
Cheesecake, churros, and deep fried mars bars.
I am a massive churros fan, but unfortunately, this version did not make me sing.
The Beverage stations are as follows:
- Beer: Heineken & Tiger (draught). Heineken, Sol, Budweiser, Desperado, H41 (bottled). YUCK! WE DEMAND CRAFT BEER!
- Wines: White (Torrentes Sant Julia, Argentina). Red (Shiraz Vivo De Bortoli, Australia). Rose (Cuvee Sabourin, France).
- Spirits: (Gin, Rum, Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey). There are also beverage stands scattered around the bar offering “cocktails”; which were very basic. I am fed up ranting about the sub-standard quality of cocktials in the this city. To all UAE Bars: Can’t we all just put in a teeny winy bit of effort, and actually mix a cocktail for our thirsty guests?
The highlight of the brunch is definitely the inflatable boxing ring set up on the dance floor, for drunkards to challenge each other while wearing a sumo body suit and gigantic gloves. Be warned that the suit is heavy, and the 3 short rounds will knock the wind out of you. So get in early before your gut is filled with food & drinks. Beer pong, and other drinking games are also available for your entertainment.
The LSB brunch priced at AED 369 is expensive for what is essentially bar food. I would recommend some minor tweaking to the menu by eliminating the less popular dishes. Additionally I would include craft beer, and offer 3-5 quality cocktails. In the meantime, the brunch is available on the Entertainer to be enjoyed at half price.
