La Tavolata is a Saturday “Brunch” concept served at the lovely outdoor lounge at Bussola, overlooking the hotel pool. The chef’s menu changes slightly each week, and is served sharing style.

On our most recent visit, we were served the following:

• Bread basket and dips
• Bruschetta
• Seared Tuna
• Vegetable Crudites
• Selection of Cold cuts & cheeses
• Cheese croquettes
• Fried calamari, shrmip & zucchini
• Teriyaki Chicken wings
• Octopus and homemade potato crisps
• Stuffed Squids
• Baked pasta with cream

The crowd favorites were the bruschetta, fried seafood, and baked pasta. Overall, the quality of the food is excellent. Least favorite were the stuffed squids and the chicken wings; which did not really fit into the menu (plus I noticed the ladies are typically not too enthusiastic to get dirty in front of the boys) Additionally everybody commented that it would be nice to see a few more pasta options added to the menu. A word of caution though to all those out there with known food allergies; the menu is not friendly towards those seeking GLUTEN-FREE or DAIRY FREE options.

For dessert, we were served a tiramisu (very good) and a fruit platter.

The Beverage options are as follows:

• Beer: Peroni (bottled)
• Wines: White (Italy Red (Italy). Rose (Italy). One from each offered only. Average at best, perhaps they can offer more varieties.
• Spirits: (Gin, Rum, Vodka, Whiskey). They also serve Negroni’s and Aperol Spritz. I was disappointed with both; they need some serious improvement.

Between the months of December-March, this is definitely a great way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon outdoors with friends. A DJ is present and plays a Deep House set. Service is attentive and efficient. You are also encouraged to continue the night for their Saturday Apertivo, offering happy hour drinks (AED 32 for house beverages) and FREE food buffet (mostly sandwiches) served at 7pm.
